I'm skipping the things you said you changed by shotgunning the problem, parts replacement is not trouble shooting. If you are willing to spend some time trouble shooting, remove your negative battery cable, make up a test light with a light socket and a 12V bulb, put it in series with the negative cable. If your system is draining from the battery it will light. Then start removing the leads hooked up to your battery side of the start solinoid. When the light goes out you are down to one major circuit. From there you can trace that line out. Look especially where it come close to metal for a rub through. If you can't find any rub through and the line goes to the fuse box, remove the fuses one at a time until it goes out. By then you will probably be down to the failing circuit, trace it out. If you are down to the failing circuit and can't figure where it goes, I'll see if I can post a circuit diagram for that function. If you really want a head ache, get a Chilton's or Haynes and try following the circuit with their wiring diagrams.

Good luck,

:)>-

im pretty sure one has a longer snout than the other, but its been a while since ive worked on a manual equipped vehicle.

dont know if you have napa auto parts where you are but they list napa part #RAY 2449232 as the one for a manual

and RAY 449227 for the auto tranny. by the way when i looked them up the manual transmission wasnt even in the default choice list. if you went to autozone they might not have looked it up right.

i suggest that you check the fuel line, carburater, or it could poosible be the sparkplugs. maybe you need to clean out the gas tank. thats what i had to do wit my 83 slt 4*4.

Well there could be a hundred different things not keeping it running. Check all the parts the send the fuel to the motor not sure if there are 2 fuel pumps or just one. My 88 had a fuel delivery problem and it turned out to be the master computer. After I spent $300 on brand new fuel pumps and even more on plugs, wires, cap, and rotor all Accel Blue and Ford Racing parts. Start simple....trust me it will help preserve your sanity.

I think the guy with the problem, Loki32, has either solved his problem already or gone elsewhere for his answer since the last time he logged into the Zone was back on 21 March. Anyhow, why are you guys giving fuel/ignition system advice when his battery is draining and the starter is making a grinding noise?
