I would treat these as individual problems for the moment. I'm going to print your post and look at it with my wiring diagrams to see what's up. sounds like he crossed wires all over the place.

ladybronco, I sent you a PM with this same advice. WHen I removed the instrument cluster from my 88 Bronco, it was mostly printed circuit board with 4 pin-type connectors. The problem may be as simple as one of these connectors being loose. OR it may be as bad as the dude before you spliced into one of these and crossed up some wires or caused a fault in the circuit board. You'll prolly end up having to remove the cluster to find out the source.

i have an interesting problem. my volt gauge is acting funky. one minute the needle will be on the small line next to the big line by the 18, or it'll be on the big line next to the 18 or it'll be in the middle, or it'll be on the small line next to the big line by the 8. what could my problem be. my first thought was the alternator, but i popped the hood yesterday and wiggled the negative battery cable and all was good, so now i'm thinking a loose connection. i've had my 3g alternator installed for a year, but the guy i bought it from said it's out of a 90's something ford. it's a large case 3g alternator. sorry if i confused anyone. thanks for any and all help.

Tripleh87, open a new post on your problem. When people append their problem to another one they can get lost in the shuffle. Also if you start your own string, you get notified by email when someone replies to it.

From the sound of it, you were right on the problem. Clean up your connections to the battery. You might want to remove and clean up the ground connection to the block, and the connection to the starter solinoid.

Good luck,

:)>-
