You should be able to just tape them off since they are uotput devices and not input devices, the computer shouldn't have any problem.

good luck,

I am talking about the connection at the gage. If a connection at the sender goes to the computer, you have to leave that hooked up. The new gages should come with their own sender units and should have information in the installation material showing where to connect them.

Good luck,

seabronc, you kinda lost me on this one.if i disconnect my factory oil sending unit and my temperature sender that are both electric, then put tape over the ends can i then replace them with mechanical gauges to mount under the dash that have there own sending units supplied. im not sure if the factory ones go to the computer or just the dash gauges the factory installed. thanks for you patience.i can do just about anything on the truck except the electrical.

Like Seabronc is saying if it is a shared connection between the computer and the guage then you cannot remove that sensor . The sensor in question here is the coolant temp sensor that one feeds a signal to the computer for you fuel injection to work properly and also sends a signal to the dash guage . When you get your new giages you need to leave that one alone . The computer doesnt care about oil pressure but it really wants to know the motors temp . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Ditto on Blades said. In my first reply I was talking about the gage end and forgot to mention the sender end, that's why I have that little ditty on communication at the bottom of my signature <)

. The computer doesn't care about the gages, but does look at stuff from sensors on the engine, in particular the temp sender, so you have to select another location to get temp from especilly if it is a temp probe. You can't remove the original sender. On older trucks like mine, there is no computer so I can remove any sender I want :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,

In regard to the Temp gage, that is where mine is with a 195 degree thermostat. I use to get up in the mid range, which to me is too high. As soon as I added a transmission oil cooler, the temp went down to about 1/4 of the way up the dial and has been steady there since.

It wouldn't hurt to check it with a temp. with an auxillary set of gages. It should be running just about at the T-stat temp.

Good luck,

your probably right, i just worry about overheating, but i have a new radiator, temp sensor,50/50 mix,and a new 180 degree thermostat so may be my gauge is accurate.

I prefer gages that give actual readings like degrees, volts, pounds, inches of mercury, etc. The stock gages aren't much bertter than idiot lights. I just haven't decided where to put them since I don't want to mess up my dash.
