Hi all. got a question about the stock egr valve on stock 85 bronco with a 300 inline 6.

Is the egr valve mounted directly to the stock 1 brl carb or is it mounted to a plate that goes between the carb and intake manifold?

Also. would the egr valve be located at the same place on an 86 F series pickup with the same engine?

Thanks, Bill

So, then, on the stock 85 full size bronco with a 300 inline 6 with a 1brl carb, where is the egr valve located?

Unfortunately the answer given (yes and yes) to my question, did not answer my question. Maybe it was my fault for not posting the question correctly. This is very possible.

The reason I need to know is my 85 bronco has headers, intake and a 4 barrel carb. I need to put back everything that was on the bronco originaly. Since original is no longer there including emissions components, I have to gather all info that I can so I can restore. It's not like I'm replacing stock items that are already there. That would be too easy.

If you are going back to a stock carb to restore the engine to original, then collect the EGR spacer from a junker. It goes under the carb. You will also need a stock intake manifold unless yours is stock with an adapter to fit the 4bbl on it. The stock manifold will have a place on the manifold that allows exhaust gases to be reintroduced into the intake system via the EGR valve.

Bill,

Here are a couple of illustration pages out of the 80 - 86 parts catalog that may be of help to you. The part numbers given, are not complete. That information comes from another part of the catalog.

Good luck,

:)>-

Thanks seabronc, the pics did help. In the second pic from the left, it shows what looks like a rake, I know they are tubes. The pic says for 1980. What is this and what is it for? Do I need one for my year engine?

As far as the intake that is on my bronco, I know it is not stock because it is made by offenhauser but I'm not sure if it was for a 4 barrel or a 1 barrel with an adapter plate. How thick would the adaptor plate be, about a half inch?

Behind the vacuum manifold on my intake, there is a plug. It looks about the same size as the vacuum manifold. Could this plug be where the piping goes for the egr valve?

I'm picking up an exhaust man and intake man from the junkyard on saturday, but will take a closer look at the intake that I have. Another question just popped into my head. You said about a one barrel intake with a 4 barrel adapter. If my intake is made for a 4 barrel, do they make an adapter plate to put a 1 barrel carb on it?

Thanks again for all your help.

First, the year notation only means it applies to 80+. The rake looking thing is part of the air injection system from the Air pump. Air is either dumped overboard, sent to the exhaust manifold or directly to the CAT via the diverter and air bypass valves (controlled by the TAB and TAD solenoids).

I doubt you will find an adapter plate to fit a 1bbl to that manifold. The Offenhauser was probably designed to take the 4bbl directly. I'm sure something like that could be fabricated, but I think it would need to be thicker than 1/2 inch.

Keep in mind that these illustrations say "Typical". What is actually on any particular engine depends on the emissions calibration which is outlined on the Emissions Sticker.
