If it is an EFI engine, yes you should keep it. If you remove it, you run the danger of burning holes in your pistons. The EGRs function is to reduce pollutants and recirculate exhaust gases at certain times to prevent pinging (PRE-DETONATION). The recirculated exhaust gases drop the temperature inside the cylinder to prevent pre-detonation. Originally in the older engines, the EGR was only used to reduce pollutants, but the engineers discovered that they could use it to design more aggressive timing curves for the EFI engines. So if you have an old carbed engine, you can get away with out it, but like I already said, in an EFI engine it could be hazardous to the engine.

Good luck,

yo,

Try a yard;

Use penetrating fluid such as PB Blaster

Remove carbon between EGR pintle valve and seat; any carbon there will hold the valve off its seat.

Remove the EGR valve and clean it with carbon remover and a brush.

Use a 1-1/16" crowfoot or hacksaw to remove EGR tube

Get a new gasket @ NAPA, etc.

Next is to find out what years and models use the smae EGR Valve;

Use the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) Decal;

Contains Vacuum Diagram & Calibration Parts List for 88 & UP.

On-Line for Free at Ford.

Click "Quick Guides" in left panel;

Scroll to & CLICK VECI Labels "Provides Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) and a related calibration parts list." Enter applicable info (need to know your Calibration number from your B-pillar sticker). Vacuum Diagram is the same as the one on the core support or hood or air filter cover. Suggest Right Clicking this Hot Link & Open in New Window

Look for VALVE ASSY., Use Service No as the Ford PN

then ask local yard to use their Interchange Guide to show what Bronco & other Ford models & years use same pn

or stop by local dealership Parts section and ask them for a print-out; then call local yards or use on-line yard searches.

For a YARD SEARCH on-line, I use;
