Got 'er running on Jul 18 after I rebuilt the carb, but it runs rough. Gotta get a new fuel sending unit, gas tank was severely gunked up, need to do a tune-up and here's the problem I need help with:

I can't get the distributor rotor off.

It's one of those two-step caps and rotors, real funky, Duraspark III as far as I can tell. The rotor will not pop off. Do I have to pull the dist in order to get the cap off??

I am assuming it is not the round bolt on type. The push on type is very tight, and I have had to destroy 3 to get them off. I don't think there is a special way to get them off. I used a pair of Channel Lock pliers, and just pulled like ****. I would have a new one on hand first, like I said they busted on removal. I have 2 351W's, and 2 302's ...all the same.

Thanks Sweep! Confirms what I figured. Nope, there's no bolts of any kind on the top of the rotor. It would probably be best to cut it off with like a Dremel or something so that I don't bang up the dist shaft.

Thanks again!!

As a follow-up here, you can see what it looks like on the bottom side of the rotor.

Yep, that's a clip! Even after tearing the old rotor off I still had to chip it off pieces from the distributor shaft where the clip rusted and locked up the plastic.
