My fuel guage in the Bronco just went over to the empty side. I thought that it was empty so I went and filled it up. It took just 4 gal. and she is full of gas but the guage is not moving. Any help on this? Please!

your sender probably went out or an open in it's wires occurred. I can't remember where the fuel gauge sender is... it's probably in the tank... do you have any wiring diagrams? if so, find it's wire, turn the key on and see if voltage is going to it. preferably check it at the sender to eliminate any opens before the sender.

On the 93, the sending unit is integral with the fuel pump inside the gas tank. A new unit is about $120, requires dropping the tank to replace it, too.

It could be a sender or the wire from the fuel gage to the sender being open.

Good luck,

:)>-

Mine always says it's full. I don't want to do all that work or pay that to fix it, so fk it. I do what the previous owner did, go 200 miles and fill up. Then reset the trip odometer. Leaves some gas in the tank and it's just enough that you don't spend too much when you fill it up.

I know I'm not spending a lot of money just to fix a gauge when I can do it manually. Plus I can keep track of my gas mileage. If I have to fix it, I'll wait until the fuel pump goes dead.

Hey 88pimpin, I have to do the same thing. Mine is on empty, but I just reset the trip odemeter and put less gas in it. I also say f--k it, cuz im a poor college student. Does anyone know what else could cause this, aside from the wiring???

My 85's gauge read empty as well when I got her. Pulled the connecting plug off the top of the gas tank by reaching over the rear axel, tracing the wires to the connector and pulling up. With somebody to watch the gauge, I shorted out the two wholes in the connector. The sending unit is only a variable rehostat and the gauge is only a resistance meter. By shorting the connector your telling the gauge that the tank is full and it should cause the gauge to move to show full. Mine did so I was sure it was the sending unit. I ran the tank as empty as I dared, then droped the tank and pulled the sending unit out and found the FLOAT...sunk. The float is just a 2" dia. by 2.5-3' long copper/brass barrell and had a small split in a corner edge and filled with gas.Its held in place by a shepherds hook looking piece of heavy wire and pops off.

I had the same problem when i bought my 93. Them damn floats will get you everytime. The float should be the first thing you check for when the gauge says empty. The wiring is just to much of a pain and the sending unit is expensive.

i have a 92 bronco and from full to half it works fine but under that it bottems out.

i dont have much problems with that i just keep it about half and i know i have gas in it. i do know that ford has had alot of problems with this because i rarely ever see an older ford that doesnt have some kind of problem witht the fuel gauge. if the truck is older and you plan on fixing that problem while you have the tank down you might as well put a new pump in it also. one other thing a fuel pump is the most unpridictable part of a vehile it can go out just 13 miles down the road.
