Howdy ya'll...

It seems like I've had to install a new heater core just about every other year. I'm tired of doing it. I'm going to replace it with a good one...but not sure on how to go. I think Becool makes one that will work...not sure. Any suggestions for my 87' full size would be appreciated. Also any tips on install would help. Thanks.

yo, there is a TSB on repeated core failures; I have it here:

http://home.comcast.net/~miesk5/technical_...d%20for%2085-96

I use MotorCraft parts.

an article on this as well; http://www.tomorrowstechnician.com/tt/tt80618.htm
Howdy Al.

I checked around...I was mistaken; Becool doesn't make heater cores like I thought. If you think it's best, I'll take your advice and buy a Motorcraft. 4 Seasons isn't selling me any more heater cores. Thanks for the links. I'll check 'em out. Later bro.

Okay...where can I buy a Motorcraft heater core for my 1987 Full Size with a 302? I can't find it on Napa, Drivewire, RockAuto, Jegs, Summit...etc. What's the deal?

Any help would be appreciated.

HEATER CORE, Bronco 87-91 $85.11 $63.83

E9TZ-18476-B or E9TZ-18476-A

ask your friendly Ford dealer parts person to match or beat this price

Rock Auto has aftermarket mfgrs.' cores, I do not who is the OEM for Ford though, guessing it could be Modine which is now marketed by Proliance; http://www.pliii.com/productcatalog/hotcat/index.asp

Make: FORD

Core Size: 7 3/4 x 7 x 2

Inlet: 5/8

Outlet: 5/8

OE Number: E9TZ-18476-B, E7TZ-18476-A

& they are under "Heat & Air Conditioning

https://www.rockauto.com

or;

http://www.ryderfleetproducts.com/cgi-bin/....jsp?oid=126006

by AirSource

Specifications in inches

Height - 7

Length - 7

Width - 2

Inlet - 5/8

Outlet - 5/8

Application - Ford F150-350

OEM Number(s) - E7TZ-18476A

forgot to add that I cut the heater hoses off, @ firewall to make it EZier to remove; of course, new hoses is good idea

check the drain for the heater box - drain is mounted low on the fire wall of the engine compartment of the vehicle - is best serviced from under the vehicle. When the drain becomes plugged moisture from the A/C system and rain water will back-up and spill into the passenger's compartment

& while you're at it

use a factory heater core and coolant. don't forget to change thermostate and flush out old coolant
Why factory coolant? Are there any major differences between Peak, Prestone, etc. and factory? Does anybody recommend a particular kind or any additives? I've seen all kinds of additive stuff on the store shelves...have been hesitant to purchase any. I'm not putting any Bars Leaks into my system; but I wondered about the so-called temperature reducers or water pump lubricants/sealers. Thanks for the tip mbtech.

never had any luck with water wetters over the years myself and i lived in south texas for 28 years. i ran them in a 61 ranchero and a toy mg midget i bought for fun years back. didn't notice a difference.

don't like sealers unless it's for an engine with small leaks you'll soon be replacing within say a year.

only thing i might recommend is the green dye. i used that when i redid my core and entire cooling system to pinpoint any leaks in the engine compartment. anything else to me at least- is snake oil.

i'm not sure if he meant just use a factory (motorcraft) core and make sure you use FRESH coolant- rather than factory coolant. i used the texaco brand which is a orange coolant (didn't know it was orange until i poured it) and have had no problems and have seen some 100+ days here in california.

cutting the hoses makes it much easier to remove. and sometimes the hoses are so stuck on anyway it's worth the replacement. just make sure you ask for high temp hose. idiots here had no idea what heater hose was- had to go to the back with them and show them what it was.

i did get a cheap core though DAMN! i needed it fast because it was leaking all over the place. i hope it holds out. has a lifetime warranty though through auto zone - whom i can't stand but i needed the core.

I heard ya ******. I'm not a fan of AZ either. And, I haven't used an additive either. I'll keep it that way. Yep, I planned on buying some bulk Gates hi-temp hose. I haven't had any problems with Gates.

Thanks all!

factory coolant is made for your engine. altough prestone and other coolants are good, but nothing beats ford parts. also when u mix it 50/50 use distilled water and not tap water. their isn't any extra metals in the distilled water like their is in tap water it cause extra corosion.
