Alright, I was on my way to work. I stopped at a store and started my 1995 5.0 bronco up and everything went crazy. I noticed the clock didn't come on to my stereo. Then, I noticed that my transmission would not shift. At all! I had to lay off the gas pedal and press it to shift the tranny. This caused the tranny to thump real bad. I mean real bad. I also noticed that my brake light and the abs light were both on. I also noticed that the check engine light came on anytime I would brake. It would go out when I took my foot off the brake pedal and would accelerate a little. My power windows would not work but my locks were working. The rear window didn't work either. My turn signals didn't work but my hazard flashers did. Also, my stereo didn't work. When I got to work, I tried turning off the ignition and it wouldn't budge. It was stuck or something. So I turned the ignition the other way as if to start it and it did its grinding thing because it was running but then the ignition turned off. It seemed as if the ignition switch was stuck farther forward than it supposed to be. Could this have caused all that chaos? I didn't think so myself. It seems that I have deeper issues than that. It's just pretty wierd for that to be a coincedence. Can somebody help me on this matter? Please. Thanks.

I don't have my Haynes manual handy so I am going to go by memory. I therefore could have a lot of fact wrong. SO here we go anyway.

The windows, radio (with and without clock), are on the same fuse.

The Hazards is on a different fuse than the directionals.

The rear window has two fuses, one fuse for the dash switch, and one fuse (which is alwasy hot) for the keyed lock in the tailgate.

I haven't gotten around to fixing my door locks (which are both broken) so I don't know for sure, but I imagine that they are on an *always hot* circuit and they would be on a differnt fuse than the windows.

So one thing that all the above have in common is that they only get power when the ignition switch is in the accessory or ON position. Since you noted that the switch itself seemed broken or funky, that would be the first place I looked.

I believe that there is a thread in the howto section of this site, of how to take apart, or adjust the ignition switch.

BTW your tranny is computer controlled, and if your ignition switch was flaky, the engine may have been getting slightly turned off and then back on giving the computer a heart attack. I suspect that your issues are not as deep/serious as you fear.

Thanks alot Joe. I know I can always count on you. I'll check out the ignition switch.
Rigs,

You're welcome, I hope it helps.

I just want to congratulate you for setting an excellent example of what a well written request for help should look like.

You named your model year and engine, and other specifics, then went into detail about what worked and what didn't, and other observations that you made... things that seemed to make a difference. Good for you!

IF you just said... "my door locks work but my windows don't ***?" We would have been led down a different diagnostic path.
