I have a 69 bronco, V8, three on the tree and I cannot seem to get the blinker cylinder off. I have taken the steering wheel and all the plastic blinker and horn parts off but that is it. I cannot go any further than that. I need to replace the shifter housing. Any help would be appreicated.

Didn't we go through this about the same time last year??? j/k

Sounds like you may have done this already, but, you need to remove all internals from the signal housing first.

If you still haven't found those little bolts you were told about, they will be towards the outer edge of the signal housing, I think they are at 12 and 6 on the dial (it's been a while since I tore through an EB column...) they will be 7/16 or smaller.

You need to find them and release the square nuts from the slots behind the collar in order to remove it. Loosen the two bolts when you find them, they do not need to be totally removed from the nuts, just loosened. You will feel the signal housing get loose, wiggle it and try to remove it, if it still doesnt come free loosen the bolts a little bit more.

Until you get the housing off, I can't be any more help than that....

good luck, and patience young Luke...

once you get the plastic blinker clip off, there are 2 nuts, one on top & one on bottom of the shift collar. Loosen both of these, but not all the way because the bolt is on the backside and if you are not careful that will fall off down the steering shaft. Once you have these 2 bolts loose you will be able to wiggle the collar off. You will also have to unplug the blinker harness under the dash to get it off completely because the blinker wires go through the shift collar.

yes, I did ask this same question about a year ago and I have been fighting it ever since. About five or six different people have told me the same thing about those two screws. The only screws I see are the three that hold the plastic blinker thing to the column. (the half moon shaped thing.) I have looked with a light, one of those little mirrors and everything else I can think of. I pulled my blinker wiring harness as far out as I could,(about two feet) and I still didn't see those screws. It seems like there might be a snap ring of some sort holding it on around the steering shaft. I tried to get it off, but that doesn't come off either. is there maybe a picture somewhere that I could look at and see where the screws are located. Thanks for the help.

This is the best I can do for you as far as a diagram goes...

and sorry if we have mislead you a little bit, you are looking for two nuts. Not screws as you mentioned previously.

In the diagram they are labelled as "****** bolt nuts" they attach the "******" (signal housing) to the column via the "****** bolts"

Also, as mentioned previously, you must completely remove the wiring from the column in order to get the housing and shift collar off.
