I have a 94 flareside. the drivers side coil spring tower assembly has rusted thru where the shock mounts on to it. how hard is it to replace this?

I think theres 6 acorn rivets that have to be ground or torched to remove it . Then you just used grade 8 bolts to put them back on think they are 7/16 . I have a set of towers if you need to get one . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thanks for the replies.... My problem is I have never dropped an axle down to get the spring out before... Do you need a spring compressor to remove the spring?

Also I understand the bolts to replace the rivets....

Can you get the axle down far enough and the body up high enough with jack stands and a floor jack?

On the top front of the shock tower there is a 1/2 wrench bolt there that holds a strap that keeps the spring in place . Tak that bolt and strap off then jack the truck up as high as you can get it by the axle then use jackstands or block it up somehow behind the axle on the frame also if its the driverside you will have to take the driveshaft off . Once the frame is blocked let the jack holding the axle up down and the spring will come away from the tower and youll be able to do what you have to do from there . Hope that helps . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thanks for the reply...

I see the bolt you are talking about... the spring looks like it is almost fully extended, but i have a 6 ton bottle jack under the axle now. I will try this tomorrow and get back to you on it.

Thanks

Get the jack out from under the axle so it can drop further and only jack up the frame. Let the axle drop and the coil will fall out once unbolted. You might have to put your foot into it and press down to get it out. If you have sway bars you might have to disconnect them. Driveline should be OK to keep on.
