When I'm rollin down the road and apply the brakes or on a bumpy trail my steering wheel makes a clicking sound as it moves straight toward my chin only about a 1/16th of an inch or so. What could be the cause of this?

Is the whole column, including the shroud, moving or just the center section?

Just the center shaft and wheel. It feels like weight is being transferred through the shaft on brake and bumps. What could possibly be loose or worn out?
