HEY GUYS, back with my bronco with yet another problem, i was leaving the junk yard and i was speeding up to catch up with traffic on busy road and when i came off the accelerator i have a loud click the goes with engine speed. a buddy told me it could be one of the rocker arm/ roller rockers . he had me use a long screwdriver as a stethescope and i could hear clicking through the handle, but i want to know what you guys think. its on my passanger side, so do i have to remove the plenum to remove the passanger valve cover or am i ok. please let me know.

Other than the click does the engine run OK, or is it a little rough? Since you have an 86 you probably don't have roller rockers.

If it is a little rough running you may have a broken valve spring, no big deal to fix. Unfortunately, I believe you will have to take the plenum out of the way to remove the valve cover. Then you can use a bump switch to turn the engine over while observing the valves. You might want to do a quick compression check first. If a spring is broken, you can change it without removing the heads, I'll go over the procedure if that turns out to be the case.

Good luck,

:)>-

No loss of power, or rough ride, he thinks one of valves is loose.
If the engine were running rough then I would say a spring, but since it runs smoothly then he is probably right. Unfortunately you will still have to remove the plenum to get at the passenger side cover off  , unless someone here knows of a way to do it without removing the plenum :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,

:)>-

Am I the only one here who thinks this sounds like a lifter ? Valves, rockers & springs are probably just fine. Just got you a stuck lifter (that's what I'd think off the top of my head anyways)
