I have a 1985 300 I6. The previous owner did a lot of hacking on the wiring and the wire for the choke is no longer there. Where does the wire that goes to the choke come from?? Thanx for any and all help.

I am pretty sure that the wire that feeds the choke comes from the alternator it is the stator wire I think and its only got power on it when the key is on . The choke has 2 wires that come from it one to ground and one to a 12 volt switched with key so you could run any wire that is hot with the key over there . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I wouldnt think 7 volts . The vehicle electrical system is 12 v on some for the ignition theres what they call resistance wire that drops the voltage down to like 6 for the ignition after its started but I wouldnt think for anything else . The cheke mechanism is the same found on all the holley and carter/edebrock aftermarket units and you run 12 volts to them they have like an internal thermostat if you ever tear one apart to see how it works. Yours only having one wire tells me that it must ground through the body of the housing somewhere . Everything electrical must have a ground power goes in it must have a place to get out to complete the circuit . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Blade262us, you mentioned a thermostat for the choke. Where is it located cuz my motor acts like the choke is on when you let off the gas and you have to hit the gas pedal a second for the revs to go down. Seems like this "thermostat" is the culprit and needs replacing.

The thermostat I was refering too is built right into the choke unit . Non replaceable unless you change the entire electric choke unit . Kinda sounds like if you have to hit the gas for a second to get the rpms to come down that the high idle cam on the choke may need to be adjusted or maybe you have a vacuum leak somewhere around the throttle shafts on the carb . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
