check engine light

every now and then while driving my check engine light will come on and then go off there is no proplems with the truck while it does this

It may be the O2 sensor or EGR sensor occasionally getting an out of spec reading. Try pulling your codes, you can go to a place like Advance Auto or Autozone, they should pull them for you free.

good advice! always need to get the Codes before spending $ on a parts dart game

btw, our 96 had same problem; intermittent CEL but no DTC....I read every Ford TSB and did wiggle tests, etc. then read last TSB update and found the gas cap's gasket was hard; new one from Ford was about $13.00; Stant type was similar and cheaper but does not have the tether.

Its amazing, after all the stuff I've done to my engine, the check engine light has never come on. I figured it would have been on all the time!
