Ive had this Bronco for five years and never had any problem with the check engine light. Back in Sept, the water pump went bad so I replaced it then my troubles started. It seems that after I replaced the water pump the light started coming on periodically at first and now its on all the time. We replaced the spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, TPS, and it runs good most the time. Often times the engine will cut out (or mis) when I first floor it then cut out again when I let off quickly. It has also had a problem with stalling, but we just replaced the TPS tonite and it hasnt stalled yet, hopefully that problem is fixed.

We got the codes and the only thing that came up was the TPS...which was replaced after the codes were read. However, the light still shines. We did unhook the battery to reset the codes and we will get the codes re-read tomorrow.

Also we have not yet replaced the O2 sensor and I kinda gutted the cat 2 years ago (to make the exhaust more awesome!), but didnt quite get all of the honeycomb out. Additionally, Ive followed vaccum lines and found nothing wrong. What could be the problem? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing the check engine light to still be on?

I did see psychobiker's post ealier about the engine light\miss/stall and went to the links that miesk5 and Steve58 provided (after I made this post). It was something I havent checked yet. I will look into it though.

Well your first mistake was "we kinda gutted the cat two years ago, but didn't quite get all the honeycomb out".. Always gotta remove it ALL. Any lil bit will get sucked back into your motor and either scratch the crap out of it, or just flat out stop it from running. NEVER gut the cats unless you get everything out.

Anywho..I'd just keep pulling the codes every time to see what's setting the system off.

sucked back into the motor? would pay to see that. I have seen the harness to the TPS burn up and short the wires, but the better question is did you clear the codes after replacing the TPS? A 95 MAY be OBDII compliant, which will not clear the codes right away. Better off clearing them then running a few trips to see if the dummy light resets.

I didnt get the chance to tinker with her tonight. I think I'm just gonna cut that cat off, it has two of 'em anyway! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Also, the TPS did need to be replaced, as it was giving me a lot of problems in the past with abnormal idling and stalling. I have heard of people using jumper wires to read the codes, but my friend's stepdad has a code reader for vehicles '95 and older that we used.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get off work at a decent time to look at it. Ive been thinking about taking a piece of tape and just cover up the engine light!! I will get back to you guys with any results and/or screwups! Thanks for your input.

Has happend before. Simple backpressure can carry items if close enough, back into the motor.

I've seen a few motors replaced in my lifetime due to a half gutted cat.

I'll see if I can find the photos of the internals of a motor that died due to that. Quite interesting. I should be back home in Denver by eary January
