I have searched the forums and have been able to gather bits and pieces of the answer I am looking for, but unfortunately only parts of the answer.

I want to maximize the output of my stock 5.8 EFI. My thought is to eliminate the cats, come from the point downstream of the O2 sensor at the H pipe and go into a 2 1/2" single exhaust system. I don't want to put on a body lift to make room for true duals and all of the plumbing involved in down the passenger side then over to have duals is too expensive.

I understand the illegalities of the issue. Now the important part. Would the changes I am thinking about increase performance a noticable amount? Is 2 1/2" large enough for a single pipe system? Will this adversely affect the computer? Will my check engine light be on all the time? Damn I can not wait until dune season! Thanks again.

I have true duals with no lift and just went around my transfer case(one on each side), you can see the pipe but I can live with that.

if removing the cats improves performance it'll be very minimal, and a hair illegal, pretty much pointless unless convertors bad

I left cat but elimanated muffler. I ran 2.5 pipe out passenger side, front of rear tire. It seems to have gained a little hp. Sound isnt bad. I think it has a good throaty sound. It sounds better than glass packs!
