Forget the almost....is the carb. old..?

Where are you...? (altitude) May need smaller jets.

I doubt it's boiling...is eng. overheating, ? ...above 200deg.?

Try a bit more info... B)

I'm having the same problem. Rebuilt 302 with new Edelbrock 600. Emailed Edelbrocks tech line, tech said maybe 600 cfm was too much for a 302! By the way this was the same tech that suggested the carb, intake, fuel pump combo to me when I was building the motor last winter. So much for tech lines! Tell you what i've tried so far, to no avail. At least maybe i can save you some work. I've replaced the 6-8 psi pump with a stock pump, ducted in a 4" fresh air intake to the breather, adjusted the floats to specs, tried hotter plugs, advanced the timing, moved the fuel filter and gas line to the inner fender(away from headers).Phew. Talked to a hot rod freak yesterday who swears by Edelbrocks. He suggested reseting the floats, ignoring the factory specs. I've ordered a calibration from Jeggs, should be here today, includes a variety of metering rods, jets and springs. If the float change or kit doesn't work I'm going to use an 8# sledge! Will let you know what happens.

Replaced the metering rods and jets, went from stock to 2 stages leaner for both power and cruise mode. Made a big diff, still a little groggy when you start it hot. I think once I re-time it all will be right with the nag. Can give you the #s if you want, good luck and let me know how you make out.

you might be getting vapor lock, I wquld try the cheap answer first and get a carb spacer and see if that helps. Otherwise try the other methods the experts above me gave you.

I have a 73 with a 302, and I installed the exact same carb with an Edlebrock intake manifold, and Edelbrock 2.5 inch round breather. Went on like a snap, and I've had no problems.

Probably a stupid question but have you checked the vacume advance to see if it has suction? Also if you run points still the condenser might be bad in the dist. How about the timing? Sounds like might be advanced and heating up? A new carb is an option if you have a few hundred to toss into the mix.
