Okay here is the situation. I am running a 2 bbl stock carb on my ride right now. I have a 4bbl that used to be on there waiting in the sidelines needing a rebuild and a new bowl on one end. I want to put the 4bbl on but dont know what is better, to rebuild the one I have or just buy a new rebuilt for around 300 bucks. Also when you get one from the store is it plug and play or will it need re jetted and adjusted? I am ass with carbs so whichever way is less chance for me to muck it up the better. Thanks guys

as far as I know i bought the complete engine last year and saw that the carb was leaking so pulled it off put an adapter plate and my 2 bbl back on so i could get around. But it looks to be stock ford/holley with motor craft part no's

4 bbl will eat more gas but give you more power, i would spend the 300 and get a brand new carb because at least you will know that its entirely new, most edelbrocks come ready to run, same with hollys for the most part, make sure you get the right one for your motor, you may just have to adjust the air idle screws, no biggy

I'd skip buying a rebuilt carb and get a new one. Rebuild kits don't address the major problem with old carbs and that is worn components that cause vacuum leaks and make it nearly impossible to get it properly adjusted. I've gone the rebuild route before and was never satisfied with the result, while a new one dropped on and ran perfectly after doing the recommended adjustments. That's my .02

Good luck,

:)>-
