Hey everyone, i recently just got an 89 bronco II from an uncle of mine as a 1st car and i absolutly love it B) . First and foremost, i need help with just the locks on the door. They're power locks, and when i hit the button i can hear the motor but the doors do not actually lock or unlock. I'd like to get some kind of headunit put in so i can listen to CD's but im not going to invest in one if the doors to the truck don't even lock. Appreciate any help, and thanks in advance

I had this problem, one of the solinoids was froze up and was basicly shorting out the system when I unhooked the bad one the others worked fine. Try that but you will have to pull the door panels off to get at everything(time consuming) but worth it if you want the doors to lock. Hope this helps you.

You can't just lock and unlock it with the post and the key?

Well i pulled off the door panel which wasn't all too hard except i had nearly the whole thing disconnected and THEN realized that there were two little screws near the bottom of the panel that kept the remaining part on...but anyway, I pulled off the panel then there is a white plastic glued over the actual door itself, what do i do from here?

Try pushing in the door handle button and turning the key to lock it. That will work manually... Sorry if thats no help.

Doing it manually is such a hassle. When i lock the passenger side the...****? i guess it's called, goes down into the door itself. So when i need to unlock both doors i need to walk around and use the key for both, it's just a pain in the ass. If anyone can help with redoing the power locks i'd appreciate any info. Thanks guys

The white plastic is just a "moisture barrier" for the inner door parts. You can either pry it off and re-use or, or just cut a couple of slots in it to get into the door. You may just have a bad actuator like stated, or part of the linkage has come apart. If you have a 12v voltmeter, you can check for power to the lock motor.

I know you want to get it fixed, and that's probably best all around, but you know you can just reach across and pull the inside handle to unlock it for your passenger right? Just thinking for the time being. You'd hate my truck if that's a hassle for you. '88 Full size, and the only thing power on it is the rear window.

Go ahead and tear out that plastic. It's much easier than trying to save it. You'll probably end up sticking it together, or tearing it anyway. Get some 3 to 5 mil plastic to replace it with. You can use just about anything to stick it back in there, but make sure whatever you use will hold up to heat since it can easily get well over 100 degrees inside those doors in the summer sun. I think I used some sort of contact cement, but it's been a while.

Use a heavy duty staple gun, to secure the plastic to the door panels. One capable of 1/2" staples. Spray glue, or a hot glue gun also works, but basic elmer's glue is too weak
