Alright. Here we go..........I have an 84 Bronco with the 300 6 cyl and the 4 speed. It currently sits in my driveway awaiting a new transfer case :(( .......I have an idea to put an automatic transmission in this hot rod. I have asked a few people about this and most of their reactions are negative. [-( I don't mind the 4 speed so much but I would like automatic and besides that, my 15 year old daughter is falling in love with my hotrod  and she wants it when she turns 16. She could learn to drive the manual tranny but auto would be better.

Now the question............What automatic tranny will fit?? Will this be more of a nightmare than a blessing??

Let me know....

Very few auto projects are blessings....trans swap, I doubt, is one of them. (The outcome, sometimes, can be)

A blessing would be teaching her to drive a stick NOW. (could even be lifesaving at some point in time)

IMHO Stick is way more fun in the dirt...& a bit more fuel stingy.

Lastly, when she falls in love with one of those "rooster-heads" she'll forget all 'bout your truck...

Any small block(302 351w) tranny will bolt up. Cheap(er) route would be the C6. If you got the cash, I'm sure you could combine an E4OD with a stand alone computer, like the one blade262us is working on, and get it to work.

The 300 six did have an auto behind it(I have no clue wich years), but I'm pretty sure they were dogs.

If I had to stay with the six, I'd keep it stick.

best bet is a c6, there are plenty of them and you can get me pretty cheap. I'm not sure if it will bolt to a 300 6 though...

but the 300 6 with the borg warner t-18 manual transmission is awesome (even though i'm going to a ZF as soon as possible). The low 1st gear is great in the snow, for towing, and off roading.

I dont know about you but from experience, i'd stay away from the E4OD... all three i've messed with were pretty soft and all eventually stopped working.

That satement was true about the pre-'95 E4ODs, but after they made improvements to them, the worked just fine. Remember that they've been behind everything from a 302 on up to a 7.3 turbo diesel. They would (in theory) work just fine.

You're right about the C6 though...Much cheaper route.

A tranny swap can be a real b*$!h if you don't have access to a vehicle lift or 2 tranny jacks. A tranny isn't hard to pull out, I did one a 91 f150 with a 4 speed. Its just the starter, driveshafts, wiring, shifter, 6 or so bolts on the bell housing, 4x4 shifter and the crossmember. Get a buddy to help you lower it because it fall. It'll take 3 guys to help mount the tranny because you have to line up the pins on the bell housing.
