My truck has a C6 trans in it, can you put lower a 1st in it and what do you do make one bulletproof, that or how hard would it be to swap a NP435 in my truck so ill have that low first gear plus more torque to the ground? So what would give me best performace at a lower cost, i dont mind havin to work on my truck either. I plan to get a 78/79 bronco parts truck to get the Dana44 and NP205 for my 86 so i might look for one with a 435 4speed in it.

To me, and this is by no means a "correct, here's the deal" statement, and I'm in NO way a truck guru (yet), aC6 comes stock pretty close to bulletproof. The only thing I ever hear someone doign to one is rebuilt with a shift kit and that's about it. And it's auto, so if you're an auto kinda person, it's a plus. Now, the NP435 I've heard is bulletproof as well, but it's manual. Seems to me it all comes down to "Do I want manual 4 speed, or automatic 3 speed?" Honestly, I've seen a stock C6 smashed on rocks, dragged on said rocks, and then submersed in water for something like half an hour, all in the same run.

So to end this rant, it's personal preference. You can't go wrong with either.

Well i know that the C6 is pretty stout stock. But what i like about the NP435 is it has that really low 1st gear and it wont over heat. Thats what i like about damn near any Borg Warner, New Process or Muncie 4-speed is that they all have that low 1st gear, really tough and damn near impossible to over heat or burn up. Infact most of the time the engine failed before the trans did when they start it in 1st, thats why i like them.

i love the np435 in my 85 bronco. its behind a 4.9l so that low rpm torque motor with a 6.67:1 first plus the 4lo make it an insane torque multiplier stock. you can get anywhere , just not in a hurry. My np has over 200k on it and it started popping out of 3rd gear alot. i tore it down and it was just the output shaft bearing was shot, put a new one in for $20 and was on my way again. not having an OD was never really an issue for me. and honestly i never used 1st gear on the road, only off road. so really you end up with a 3 speed manual :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
