I have an 87 Full Size with 302 and 4 speed manual tranny. I purchased the truck without the front drive shaft. Ive checked out the truck and all 4 x 4 systems are a go but I just need a front drive shaft to connect the dots. I need to know how to identify my tranny as a C6 or an E4OD. Is there markings or certain measurements? Any help appreciated.

If you've got a 4 spd manual you have neither the C-6 or the E4OD.

The C-6 and E4OD are automatics...

Correct!!! Since there are a few different models of manual trannies as well, some further info may help to ID what you have. Does the manual have overdrive (OD)? You can look at the door jamb sticker on the driver's side for the trans code, or better yet crawl underneath the Bronco and look for any numbers or a logo or label on the side of the tranny. Even posting the shift pattern and where reverse is located will help. While you're under there, look at the transfer case for markings or tags, since a few different versions were available. Most often, the front driveshaft is removed due to a problem with the 4wd system, so inspect the front axle and operation of the t-case shifter.

No overdirve...basic 1-4 H shift pattern with reverse all the way right then down. Door jam has been painted and the sticker removed prior to paint.

THe pattern sounds like the New Process 435, like my 86 has. Two ways you can tell for sure. IF you crawl underneath the passenger-side, look for the NP logo and the model number stamped into the side of the tranny housing. Actually a reverse stamp on the NP, with the letters raised. Other way is to remove the shifter boot up top, and look at the top of the tranny. THe NP 435 has an aluminum top. Somewhere in the forums is a link I posted to the Motive Gear tranny guide. IT shows pics of what you may have. THen lok at the t-case for a stamp or logo on the back side. A NP 208 has a smooth case, while the Borg-Warner 13-45 and B-W 13-56 t-cases have alot of fins or little ribs. Good luck!!!
