Found a recent rebuild C4 out of a 78 Ford pickup for sale. Here is what he said for details: "3 speed , C4, alum. case, with converter best offer picked up"

My original C4 is in need of a rebuild so just wondering if it would be easier to get this one and just bolt it in. He is saying "best offer" what should i offer for it? Does case fill or pan fill matter? pic attached.

Thanks!

"a recent rebuild C4"

Huh...????

How'd they get it apart W/O some-o-the grease coming off the bolts....??

Hard to tell fr. that pic. but scraping the "big-chunks" off doesn't equal "re-built".......

I would tell him pay me $75 & you'll haul it away.... or keep looking...

Good point about the bolts, etc. Not sure how recent the rebuild was, but his words were:

"hmmm i know it was in a 78 ford pickup and acually the tranny was suppose to be rebuilt there is new seals in it front and back and the fluid looks awesome and dont smell at all here is a pic of it let me know bud thanks....adam"

Save the headache and look for another or better yet just rebuild the one you got.

fair enough. What price range should i expect for a ready to bolt in good condition C4? Appox how much for someone to rebuild? at least with mine I'll know exactly what i got from the get go.

Thanks!

all else aside...can anyone just simply confirm yes or no if this C4 (out of the 78 ford pickup) will bolt up to my 76 Bronco?

Thanks!

yes it should bold up, because a 302 is a 302 as far as bell housing pattern, but the picture is of a two wheel drive tranny like out of a car. the four wheel drive tranny has a different output shaft because it is married to the transfer case. it would require total disassembly to change it. i think bronc76 has the right idea, i cant see it costing you more than a couple hundered plus parts to have someone rebuild yours.

would it (the pic of the tranny) look like one out of a car, or could it be a 2 wheel drive truck?

same difference, either way car or truck two wheel drive will not work with a married transfercase unless it has the correct output shaft installed into it which would require total disassembly.

I had mine rebuilt as opposed to finding another one. That way I know what I had instead of not knowing with someone elses.

".......simply confirm yes or no"

Yes & no........

The '73-77 "Bronco" C4 used 164 tooth 28 oz. imbalance flexplate. (pan-fill)

Case-fill C4's had 157 & 164 tooth flexplates & corresponding bellhousings.

Torque converters are also particular to the diff. flexplates.

However., a few Br's had the case-fill but it wasn't stock.

I would assume these would have been a special order....

----AND----

Can we be sure that's, in fact, a C4 in that pic ..?

Thanks for all the info, I've wised up and am just going to rebuild my original C4 so i know exactly what i have. I have a few quotes at $300 out the door for rebuild...80_100 more for new converter. So $400 ish or so is worth it.
