Im looking at buying a 1970 Bronco. Never owned one before, does anyone have any ideas on what to look for as far as common problems, something someone might try to hide ect... Thanks for your help in advance

Hi IH.., welcome..!

Long/short., Look for "beauty only skin deep".! Meaning a pretty paint job on a pile of junk, to be blunt... >:D< <'>

However it's all cleanable/fixable... these are tough, old-school rigs that any semi-mechanic can work on. There's nothing odd or unusual., Every part is available/replaceable. Most everything is "metal"..! :D/

Many folks find out that these EB's are valuable & try to get a high price on a rig that's a run-out.

They attempt to take the equity due the buyer/new owner, that will spend the blood sweat & tears fixing these rigs up.

The closer to "stock" is a better buy....you can then do the mods you prefer.

Drive it..!! Steering ,brakes, smoothness, noises, vibration.., even smells can give clues. Crawl under, over, around...looking for problems.

At the end of the day., it's not really diff. than buying any other used car/truck.

HTH,

B

Bob pretty much hit it on the head esp. about the 'high price'. You may want to look at common areas of rust on these things; door jambs, quarter panels, floor pans, and especially the tailgate. You can always carry a small magnet with you to test these areas, but all these are fixable.

I bought some mint oem fenders and a hood from a guy in Point Roberts Washington and he told me to run your fingers along the pinchwelds of the rear wheel tubs and the pinchweld of the kick panel to front wheel tubs and if they feel "FAT" then its likely going to be lots of rust replacement. Im a 10 year bodyman and i bought what i thought to be a decent bronco, i was half correct. Frame is solid and straight has the dana 44 all the good stuff but as i started pulling stuff apart more and more rust showed up and soon i realized the body was beyond repair. So now im looking for a body, but they are out there ive found many for good prices.
