The truck would go a 1/4 mile then die, I would have to let it sit for 5 minutes and then it would run for another 1/4 mile. I think its the fuel pump relay. Any suggestions?

Check /change the fuel filter and test the relays. IF the in-tank pump quit working, you'd not be able to start at all. But it may be on it's last leg, giving you a warning. Good luck, get'er fixxed!!! JSM84

I replaced the pump last week and the filter is newer. The cover for the relay was missing when I got to it, so I don't know.

If everything else fails, I heard of people that had coil issues. When the coil heats up it quits working, then works when it cools. How did you make out with the check engine light?

Light is still there. After it dies you cannot hear the pump prime, after 5 minutes it primes again.

Do the self test soon to save $ - or buy a cheap Code Scanner if yoiu don't care for the self test process; shop locally for best price

The self test isn't giving me any suggestions and no local places will let me borrow a scanner.

You can buy a Ford specific obd1 scanner for not to much $. I just picked one up at a Checkers parts store for 25$.

might be worth the time to call around to local garages to see if they charge to give an estimate I know where I work it really sucks diagnose it give the guy an estimate and hes out the door and when you see him again for an oil change the repairs already been made ****** me of but it might be a good way to get the right track instead of tossing parts at it until it right

btw have also heard the icm problem and expereinced the coil problem easy to diagnose if you have the right tools (scanner for a start) if your interested I am selling my old one (tech 1a) with all the adapters manuals etc. it works on OBD I but not OBD II so not much good anymore as my new one will do both

The fuel pump is screwed. I bought the last one from Napa, worked for 9 months and then got a new one (under warranty) it worked for a week.
