Anyone have any idea on what the problem is when you're attemting to blead your brakes but you can't get the pedal to get firm enough and if by chance you do, when you break the bleader ***** loose you get just a slight dribble? It' happening on my passenger rear and driver front? Don't know where to look?

Did you let the reservoir run dry and let air get into the master cylinder?

Nope... Just replaced the front rotors and pads and it all went to ****. Forgot to add this is the 99 ****** but figured it would be close to the same problem/diagnosis.

I certainly am not the expert here Bidi, but as far as I know, if your pedal is soft, you have air in the lines. Did you bleed the fronts?

The only other thing I can think of is that your master cyl needs to be rebuilt. If it is leaking internally, when you depress the pedal, the fluid may bypass the rubber cups inside and not put the pressure that they should.

I only rebuilt one and that was many years ago, but it was an easy job, and cost just a few bucks for the kit.

try removing the bleed ***** all the way, small amount of debris might be obstructing it, then slam the break pedal down fast.

also hold your finger over the hole to make sure air dosent get sucked back in.

Didn't know you could rebuild the master cylender.... Or did I? I'll look into that.

I'll also give this a shot first to see what's going on. It did this to me last time I did the brakes (rear only, e-brake wouldnt hold) and I got another master from the junkyard and it worked good enough. Well, it stoped me and would lock em up if I needed but now it's all goofy again. What about the booster? could it not be doing whatever it is that it does? I know when my wife would push on the brakes for me I heard a "blowby" sound coming from that general area. Thanks for all the help fellows...

Bidi,

To my surprise with a quick search, a rebuilding kit (yes they are still available) wasn't much cheaper than getting a new one (or maybe it was a rebuilt one I saw).

just don't get one from autozone, the duralast one i put on my truck was good for a day or two, ended up limping home in 4X4 with the e brake release ******* so i could use that as my break pedal. the one that i payed 10 bucks more for at napa works great.

how are you bleeding them? i have one of those $5 one man bleeders and that thing works pretty well. ive also used a hand vac pump, mighty vac, and a pressure bleeder. and the old fashion way of a hose submerged in fluid.

one thing i like to do if i think a bleeder is giving me trouble is get someone to pump up the pedal and with the pedel depressed slowly crack open the bleeder.

ive also had new calipers and new brake lines not seal and let air bleed by. by new i mean reman calipers.

usually i bleed the fronts, then the rears, then go back to the fronts one more time.

heh heh when i was in pheonix i helped a freind fix the brakes on his explorer, we hit the local hardware store and got 4 pieces of hose a couple Y's and a one way check valve, all 4 at once, took two 7/16ths and two 3/ths box heads though, (left them on the nut the whole time)

I had a 79 caprice ,that had a valve under the drivers seat-that you had a nut in it. I took the nut out and bled it first -then the rear wheel cylinder. If you get any parts at the px ---when I was in the navy---I helped a friend fix his vega. It had a bad starter--We got 4 bad starters before we got a good one.Good luck and thanks for protecting our freedom.Johnny
