hey guys I know I talked about this a little bit ago but now its starting to get really bad. i replaced my really really worn out belt and i had the tensioner tightened enough, i know that for a fact, but now theres this loud ass squeaking coming from the tensioner pulley. i tried making that paste out of ajax and water cause i thought it was just the new belt getting broken in, but now im starting to think its the bearings in the tensioner pulley. has anyone come across this? the tensioner is just as tight as it was now but the belt was stretched out about 2 or 3 inches so i wonder if the increased rotation of the pulley messed up the bearings.

Miesk5 suggested using a cardboard tube as a listening device (like one you would get with gift wrapping paper) to localize the noise.

Make sure you don't have any loose clothing when looking under the hood with an engine running.

If your Bronco has 100,000 miles on it, your tensioner pullies have about 200 million to 400 million revolutions on them depending on if you do more highway, or city driving.

I replaced the tensioner pullies on my crown vic a few months back. It is a really easy job, and they cost about five to ten dollars each. One made noise... I replaced them both.

IF you take the tension off of the pullies, and spin them by hand, if they don't turn smoothely, that's a good sign they need to be replaced.

If it is comming from the tensioner, replace it. It is a 1 bolt job.
Good luck,

yea it's a really easy thing to fix, I had to clean all my pulleys with a brush and acetone when i got my truck, idiot previous owner though it would be a good idea to spray WD-40 on the belt to stop it from squeaking, gummed the belt up all to ****.

It's definately your tensioner pully. Mine had the same symptoms and I let it go for too long. One day when I was coming out of a car wash, I started my bronco up and the pulley just sheared itself off. Fortunately there was an Advanced auto parts store right across the street. I bought the pulley and put it in right there in the parking lot. Just remember that the bolt on the pully is reverse threaded because of the direction of the belt. It's a real easy fix.

Man My '90(see sig......) Had the same problem, It's definitely the tensioner. Mine even got louder as I got on it(more rpm's more squeal) It took me two belts and the tensioner breaking off(hence the second belt) to find out replace it now and save a hassle.
