bad klunk when in 4 wheel drive.

i have an 88 bronco. when i put it in 4 wheel drive it runs fine for a little but then i hear a bad klunk from the drivers side and then it will pop in and out of 4 wheel drive. i took the hubs apart and they are fine. it dosent look like a u joint but its a pain to take apart and i dont want to break it down untill i have an idea of where to start.

auto hubs/ manual hubs, drivetrain, ect.ect.. ??

need some specifics, how do you know that it is going in and out of 4 wheel? what conditions are you driving it in and how are you driving it?

i have manual hubs. the front end is i beleive a dana 44. i know its poping in and out because the front tires stop spinning compleatly. the first time it did it was in the mud and resulted in me gettin stuck lol... i was drive along in 4 wheel drive and the it pop out and i was only in 2 wheel and got buried.

Have you checked to see if linkage is loose or binding? May want to look at shift fork also.

Kinda sounds like a bad hub to me just had that problem with my buddies K5 it was weak so it engaged but when given and power it would slip
