Whats the big deal with everyone puttin these Art Carr and B&M shifters in their truck? You read the descriptsion for them or listen to people talk about em and "they dont jam or spring"...is this really a problem?? Ive never had the stock column shift for my C6 "jam or spring", so whats up with these?

To be honest with ya I just don't see the need for one in most Bronco's. Unless you're running it in competition or have some odd engine/tranny/chassis combo that needs a high-end "universal" shifter that can be made to work with anything why would you need one ? Now understand that both Art Carr & B&M make a number of performance shifters but again, using most of them in the average Bronco is just adding some Bling.

I've run several B&M ratchets, and for cars that spend most wkends at the track they're damn fine shifters. However I find their usefulness in a Bronco to be a bit questionable. In a competition truck they're ok, but a bit of a pain to drive back & forth to work.

Unless you *really* like the look, feel & action of a ratchet shifter then I sure wouldn't even *consider* one in a daily driver. Running mud drags on wkends would really be the only reason *I'D* come up with for running one, otherwise it's just not worth the $$$ & daily hassle to impress the people who occasionally ride w/you.

Now sometimes you get into freakish engine/tranny combos and guys wind up *needing* some sort of universal shifter that can be made to work with everything in order to make the package work, but even then ratcheting thru most shifts gets old fast :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yea but i wanna know how you jam or spring a shifter, ive had my bronco on flexy rocks, steep loose bouncy rocky hills, all kinds of stuff that puts stress on the truck. And never once has my stock shifter tried to jam or even give me the slightest trouble. Now i can see there use when people be all crazy and do stuff like put a 426 hemi and TH700R4 in a Ford(theres some weirdos out there) but do people really have a problem with stock shifters that "jam or spring"

Uhm, yeah, well there ya go. I've had Bronco's so off-camber with one rear wheel in a deep rut and the opposite front wheel way up on a boulder or up in the air and I *couldn't* open either door because the frame was torqued so much and they still shifted fine. I've NEVER been able to torque one so badly it couldn't shift. Never, not once and it *wasn't* for a lack of trying, I can tell you THAT for sure. I've never had one jam, stick or otherwise fail due to engine/tranny combos or body/chassis flex. That's why I said that as far as *I* was concerned anyone running a shifter like that is doing so because he *likes* it. Some guys just plain LIKE ratcheting thru gears (some folks prefer stairs to elevators & that's ok too) and other guys just think the whole ratchet shifter thing looks cool and is impressive to the occasional female passenger. Whatever gets you thru the night man.
