This summer I am going to cleanup and shapeup the engine compartment of my Bronco is there a chemical available off the shelf that will clean aluminum parts back to their original apperance, parts like the smog pump, carb, and AC compressor?

I've only done it on bumpers and wheels, but if you can find a lightly abrasive cleaner it will fix aluminum right up. I've used Soft Scrub before followed by some Mother's aluminum polish, and boy did it shine.

If you use Soft Scrub go light. I don't know that it would, but I'd imagine it could potentially etch into the aluminum if you went gung ** on it. Maybe try it on something a little out of the way first to see how it works for you.

Laugh all you want, but I used Dow's Scrubbing Bubbles in the past to clean my engine. I also use a product from ZepCo (sp?) called "Zap-Alume Aluminum Cleaner" on my diamond plate toolbox, bedrails, and other large items. Look at the engine pic in my gallery, the A/C compressor shines like a diamond...

Oh yeah. I've also heard of people scrubbing rims with aluminum foil. They say it works great to get them back to a shine. never tried it, but it's what i hear.
