If you upgrade the alternator, upgrade the cable from it to the battery. Leaving the old cable is like putting a crimp in a pipe. The old wire is rated for the alternator installed. I would consider putting in a kit from some place like RJM http://www.rjminject...harge-cable-kithttp://www.rjminject...ons/alternators . Wire from the alternator to a new 175 Amp fuse and from the fuse to the battery and voltage distribution.
A quick way to ID the existing alternator is the hole pattern. If you look at the alternators at the RJM site you will notice 95's have a 4 hole pattern and the 160's have a 2 hole pattern.
