I tried to install new studs on my right front tire and one of them didn't hook in all the way. The lug is on tight and now when I go to take it off it comes out halfway and then both stud and lug spin. How do I take the automatic 4x4 and hub off with the tire still on? I got the 4x4 out to the part where you squeeze the ring and pull the guts out. Now what?

yes, the auto hub can be removed w/wheel/tire on.

btw, do you have instructions on how to replace the hub with a manual hub (Warn, MM, etc.?); assuming you're converting).

Can you get a vise-grip on the stud?

Use large washers between nut and wheel hub to get the studs fully seated when you replace them again; I used large copper wire ring terminals (gives some crush space to avoid stripping stud's threads) once as a spacer to secure the stud.

You need to remove the locknuts that are in there, youll need a special tool for that (under 10 dollars) and then the whole assembly should come off

Good luck,

So far I've taken to hitting stuff with a hammer and I think later on I'll throw stuff.

go to the parts store and pick up a locknut spanner socket. tell them its for a (insert your year) bronco and they'll point you to the right one. take all the lugnuts off except for the one, and try to hold the wheel against the stud so that the friction is enough to allow you to turn the lugnut and get it off. the rotor assembly isnt coming off until you take the caliper off, and thats gonna be hard with the tire still on there. once you've got the rotor off, take a heay screwdriver or punch with a big hammer, and pound on the stud until its seated. most of them have index key marks in them that correspond to a notch in the rotor or knunckle that lock them in place
