when the ac is off this doenst happen.

i popped the hood and when the ac is on, the front of the ac unit will spin for about 2 seconds during the rev, then stop

it seems that the ac is tryin to start up but it immediately shuts off.

but when the ac is off, the spins stop

looks like you need a new compressor or a new clutch for the compressor. the engine is trying to compensate for the a/c unit coming on, but since nothing is happening your computer is telling it to react constantly. and a a/c recharge wouldnt hurt....

dont add the fre-on just yet, i mean you can if you want to but id look into first off seeing why the compressor is causing the engine to jump idle constantly

I know very little about AC. With that said, it is possible that all you need is a charge. The compressor will cycle on and off if it is low on freon. ALso the engine RPM will pick up a little when the AC compressor is on. It shouldn't pick up much, so there may be another issue there.

*I* would take it to a trusted mechanic and have it checked, maily because it is outside my knowledge area, nor do I have the specialized tools and guages.

Low on freon is the most common cause of this problem. You can easily get yourself a can of freon & add it, some even have the hose attachment with it. If it stops or runs much longer between cycles you've found the 1st problem, although probably not fixed the cause.

Where did the freon leak out? I haven't had great luck with the stuff that supposedly seals leaks, but some kinds have a green dye that will show up at the leak at least it will show you what needs to be replaced. Look everywhere along the system for the dye, don't just run out & get the piece or hose that you 1st see the dye or you can go through the process several times until you have replaced all the pieces leaking or seaping, don't even ask how I learned this.

alot of times its just used up, it doesn't last forever, the compressor will only kick on if there is enough preasure in the canister, when you do the recharge have the engine running the the a/c on max, that will most likely fix your problem, if you have a leak you will know right away because you will hear it
