Has anyone ever taken out the front wheel sensor on a 93 Bronco or similar? I have been dealing with an annoying problem concerning the breaks, and I think I have it narrowed down to the sensor either being dirty or faulty. (When braking, sometimes, not always, said Bronco makes a funny groan sound, and then the brakes up front seem to release momentarily and then catch again.) Anyways, I think the sensor is erroniously detecting a wheel lock up and initiating ABS control, which I am told releases some of the brake fluid pressure. I read how to do it in the Haynes manual, and have actually seen where the electrical connector goes into the inboard side of the wheel. I am not sure if I have to pull the wheel and brakes off to actually get to the sensor though? Any help would be appreciated, B-Cack

Depending on how hard you apply the breaks, it may be working correctly. Actually they let off the pressure before lock up. I had a Chevy van and when you hit the breaks hard enough it would make the groaning noise which was actually the ABS modulating the break fuid pressure.

Yeah, it doesn't really seem to be if you stomp on them hard, but rather continual pressure. It seems like the pressure builds and builds and right before coming to a complete stop, she goes "grrrroooaaaa" and the whole Bronc seems to shift from the left and to the right for about a foot or two, then stops. This is a really annoying problem, I have been "diagnosed" with several problems, ranging frot the power boost unit to the ECU, both of which I replaced and it still does it. (of course now I have a new ECU and power boost unit. ha ha) Sea Bronc seems to be a virtual God in this site, any advice from him is like manna from heaven, Thanks

I got news for ya, there is plenty I don't know and that guf is getting bigger every time I read a book  . There are guys on here that know a heck of a lot more than me, they just keep quiet about it :-& #036; . For ex. I'm stumped on this one  .

I can see where that problem could be a little exciting, especially on slipery surfaces.

Any ideas out there?

Good luck,

:)>-

it sounds like the actual ABS sensor that read the tone ring inside of the rotor has either gone back or is dirty as ****. i've known of more than one rig to have this happen. you'll have to pull the rotor in question for ease of access to the sensor, and you can check the tone ring while your at it.

Yeah, I didn't really wan't to pull the rotor off and all that fun stuff, I had more exciting plans, for example going dove hunting! But I guess I better "git-r-done" right? What would you use to clean it, just good ole break cleaner? I have a feeling they are shot though, that is my luck! ( I have to try cleaning them first!) Thanks, B-Cack

brake cleaner will work, or just wipe them down with a clean cloth, soaked in water&mild soap
