Hi all. Some of you know that I am restoring my 85 bronco emissions. For now I am gathering all the components nessesarry to accomplish this.

I wrote down all the abbreviations that are on my vacuum hose routing diagram and with the help of you knoledgeable people here and the internet, I found out what they all stand for. All except for one, so maybe one of you could help me out.

From the vacuum source on the intake manifolt, it shows a single red hose going to it. On the diagram it is shown behind the carb and air cleaner. It is a small box with a lip. Part of the abbrv. is on one side of this box and part on other side of box. One side is P-D, the other side is MTR. Can someone tell me what this is?

Also, the guy at auto zone told me that my year and engine called for an O2 sensor. There is nothing on that diagram that shows this sensor. Does this sensor send signals directly to the cpu and is that why it is not on the diagram?

My bronco info is in my signature

Thanks, Bill

That should be the Positioner Dashpot. They can be operated by vacuum, electrically, or both. It acts as a variable throttle stop to keep the engine from stalling under a load like A/C, sudden deceleration, or emissions purposes.

The O2 sensor reports directly to the EEC.

If you are keeping the 4bbl you may not be able to put it on. It hooks on the stock carb and keeps the idle up under certain conditions. If it's on your emissions sticker, it is intended to be used by the emissions system. I guess it all depends on how picky the inspection is. Around here they are supposed to do a visual to make sure everything is there.

Hey Bill,

I was just over at the FSB site and a guy has some pictures of his 1bbl I6 that he is is changing the air cleaner on for a different style. He has several pictures of the engine that shows some of the emissions stuff. Take a look at it. He may also be a good guy to talk to on what's hooked up where on his engine. FSB ain't a bad site but they don't seem too patient with new guys.

You can see things like the TB and TAD mounting, evaporative emissions hookup to carb, the dash **** air cleaner to oil filler hose connection, etc.

Good luck,
