Hello again friends!

I have an '86 5.8L. When trying to start my Bronco, I turn the key, and thats all I hear is a click. I replaced the battery and the starter. All the lights and radio etc. work, but when I turn the key I only hear a click. Any ideas gents?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

Thanks! It turned out the cable from the solenoid to the starter was bad...easy fix

Thanks again!

The best approach to save a lot of guessing and throwing money at it, is to get a meter and have someone turn the key while you check for 12 volts at the following places:

1. At the input and output posts on the starter solinoid. If it is there go to # 2. If not, go to # 4.

2. Check for 12V at the starter. If it is there go to 3. If not, you have a bad cable from the solinoid to the starter.

3. Check the other starter connection. If you have 12V there you have a bad ground.

4. Check for 12V at the small post on the start solinoid that has a small red wire on it. If you have it there, the solinoid is bad. If it is not, there you have a problem from the ignition switch to the solinoid. That is usually caused by the neytral safety switch on the transmission if you have an automatic. If you have standard shift it is usually the same basic function but the swithch is located on the clutch pedal. (I am assuming that path is probably good based on the comment about hearing a click).

Good luck,

:)>-
