My 1990 XLT full size has got very little power off the line. If i step on the gas hard it just sort of putts along for a few seconds then all of a sudden its like it gets power and takes off. could this be a TP sensor? Also i was driving to work this morning and i was braking as i was coming to a stop light and all of a sudden the brakes engaged a whole lot more than i was pressing them. could it be that one of my calipers isnt working properly and is just deciding to work when it wants?

If you hold down the brakes and rev the engine then let off the brakes does it have more power off the line?

As for the brakes, you might have air in the lines. Mine to that every once in a while. I think it's due to air in the line. Just need to bleed them to get the air out. I would definitely take a look at the pads in the front and shoes in the back to see what the wear looks like. Maybe like you said one is worn more than the other.

i havnt tried holding the brakes and then reving the engine but i will do that today. As for the brakes, the adjustment cable wasnt attached and i think that was causing the problems. At least i put the cable back on and havnt had a prob since.

So i tried your suggestion of holding the brakes whilst revving the engine and seeing if i had more power off the line. and the answer is yes it does seem to take off faster, not tire spinning fast mind you but faster than usual.

my thought with reving and then taking off is that maybe if the brakes were grabbing you would feel them grab even with the increased power of the engine. But that was kind of a wild guess.

Mine doesn't seem to be super fast off the line either if that makes you feel any better.

I had a 2000 Lincoln LS that I expected to be super fast off the line as it had a supercharged v8. I played around with it and there was always this degree of hesitation from when I stepped on the pedal to when the engine actually kicked in. Sort of ****** me off.

Kind of the same with the Bronco now. All I can think is that the delay in the sensors (TPS, IAS, etc) talking to the ECM (who is responsible for fuel delivery into the heads) is just enough for those seconds in delay and you loose some crispness in response.

You know now that I think about it, it could also have to do with the auto trans too. Basically with the torque converter you've got fluid driving the shaft to the tranny. Reving the engine and holding down the brakes you basically stall that process but you still have lots of tranny fluid trying to push the T-converter. Then when you let off the brakes it's ready to rock and roll. From a dead stop that fluid has got to ramp up for more flow. I'm thinking that could cause some delay too.

Sounds like tooo much thinking going on around here. Dont think it to death untill after you have checked the basics. how long has this problem been occuring ? When was the last tune up; plugs wires cap rotor Fuel filter air filter. what is the level of the tranny fluid (full or low?)? You gotta cover the basics first then if problem still persist think harder.

well ive only owned the truck for about 3 months and it has been happening ever since i bought it. i have replaced the air filter and plugs and drained and replenished the trans fluid. I do have a buddy who works for Ford and is going to put his code checker on it and find out if there are any codes stored. i was just wanting to get some other opinions on it.

As what I have posted in the other thread, Ive got a lot of questions to Dreamcode before I finally get an account from them. Ive learned also that before they get into this business, they were into web development and also owns an internet cafe. I did ask them for a receipt and they explained that they are using temporarily now their official receipt they used with their cafe. And I accept that, no big deal. I mean how transparent are they? Try to text them, or email them. Im sure you will get fine good explanations from them.

Sounds like you need better fire I would go with an ignition tune up like a hotter coil new cap and button you said the plugs were changed I would go with a high end plug wire to maybe bump the timing up a hair to

Even after a new 302 ** rebuilt was under the hood I still had alot of lag off the line and in the mud, New cap and rotor along with new coil, premium wires and new fuel filter and a new throttle cable ( i was only getting 2/3rds of throttle at the floor, and it was like have a new truck. Still not tire spinning fast but a huge difference.

Transmission wise if it has some age on it you can try some Lucas transmission fix just don't overfill the case, it made a big difference in how it felt both shifting on the highway and off the line.

I think Elmo's right exhaust the little things first, they tend to be cheaper, K.I.S.s. theory.

I'm not sure if it apply's but I ran the platinum plugs for about a week a went back to standard champions, and i got better performance.

good luck
