OK, I don't have a Bronco but I thought I would come to the experts. I have a 93 Lightning with two 16 gal fuel tanks and I want to convert it to one 33 gal Bronco Tank out of a 92-96. Has anyone seen it done or know if it will work? I already took out the spare tire and brackets but I don't have a tank or a Bronco to look at to see if it will fit. I thought it might work if I took everything from the tank and straps to the fuel pump but I can find anyone who has done it.

I have seen people do it with Rangers and Bronco IIs but not with a full size. I don't mind cutting up my bed if I need to.

Any input is greatly appreciated. I would like to get a fuel cell but don't have the $$$.

Thanks.

The frames are pretty much the same in the back bronco is a hair shorter . I wouls think it would work just fine . Just have to use the skid plate from the bronco because thats what holds the gas tank up in there. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

The only thing I would be concerned about is what would happen if you were rear-ended with the tank in the back. The Bronco was designed with the rear tank but the pick-up wasn't so there may be less protection back there.

It may be worth it to beef up the back if you do this.

Just my $.02

The gas tank on a pickup is in the back too the one in the front is the auxilary tank . Besides how many dual tank trucks do you see . I think about every short box extended cab truck made had dual tanks . So I dont think theres a problem with it . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

The problem I'm having is that I'm trying to build a desert truck on a budget. I know its a lightning but it was in sad shape body wise when I got it. (Real cheap off an 18 year old.) It still runs like a clock and will roast the 35's and go anywhere I want as long as I've got some speed. Anyway, I want to run full headers and an exhaust pipe out each side in front of the tires, but the front tank is in my way. My 9" goes in soon and one of these days, the truck will be caged so I won't wory about being rearended. I just don't have $1K to thow into a fuel cell right now and I don't think I need one. I just don't want to be stuck with driving from one gas station to the next. 13MPG isn't that great but better than a Bronco I hear.

Thanks for all the input so far though. One of these days I'll have a 68-73 Bronco to play with. I hate the smog laws here in Cali and I've always wanted an old Bronco.

I remember talking to a dude over at Ford Truck World, think his user name is MidNiteCrawler or Midnite, something like that. He also wanted to put a Bronco tank under his truck, but didn't know how it would look. I'm pretty sure it fits if you have a body lift or cut the bed out, since the Bronco rear cargo area is raised above the floor a few inches. The entire bottom half of the tank hangs down below the frame in a Bronco, so you definitely need a strong skidplate or should raise the mounting points. I think there is a 25-gallon version of the tank as well as the 33, if that bigger one won't fit. I have the big tank from my 88 parts Bronco if you need some measurements or are looking for one. Good Luck!!!
