I have a 94 Bronco 5.8L and have been told that the vibration I am experiencing could be caused by the steering damper/stabilizer. I have found it in my shop manual and think I can replace it myself, but when I looked under the front end, I do not see it.

Is it possible that my suspension/steering system does not have one? Am I just looking in the wrong place? The picture shows it anchored to the steering bar and the frame, but I do not see it there.

Thanks for any help.

The steering damper/stabilizer will be a shock mounted horizontally in front of the front axle beams, mounted to the steering linkage like you stated. Not all Broncos came with them from the factory, most I've seen do not have it.

IF you are feeling a vibration in the front end, I would suspect it is from the tires/rims or worn steering linkage. Best way to check is to raise each wheel, and check for play side-to-side or up-an-down. There should be none.

If you had one, you'd see it. It would just look like a shock absorber sitting horizontally(ish) under your front end.

I added one to my 94 Bronco and it really helped out with the potholes and other bumps in the road. For a lift and oversized tires I would definately get one.

How do those mount on the steering system? Is one end clamped to the drag link and the other end bolted to the front crossmember?

I need to look under my Bronco again, but it seemed like that was kinda far away to be putting a stabilizer on... Then again, I just recently replaced my drag link (after it fell out while driving, good thing I was only driving 5mph or so up an old lava flow), so maybe I did it wrong and it's too far away :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

lmk, I might be interested. I'm going to put a lift kit on it within the next year, so I'll be needing one anyway.
