Hey everyone. I'm new but have already seen some great advice reading through the posts so I hope I can get some direction myself. I have a 94 Bronco XLT 5.0. Last week on the way home on the interstate at about 2000-2500 RPM the truck cut out briefly a couple of times as if the key was cut off. Three days later it happened again. Being low on gas I put a few gallons in the tank (@ 2.09 a gallon!) and continued on. Maybe in my head but seemed to be running a little rough. Came to a stop light a few miles later and it died just like on the interstate but would not restart. Check showed no spark from coil. Tried to get lucky and throw a new coil at it. No luck. Checked ICM and it showed low RPM circuit dead. Guy said "must have died on you at low idle". I said "Exactly!" and came home to install new module. Still dead! Took new ICM back to make sure it wasn't bad. No luck again. I'm going to check PIP but think it sterange that two things would have gone wrong at the same time. Any ideas would be helpful. I'm a home remodeler and things are backing up while im walking!

There is always the PCM which controls ignition. Have you checked all connectors by pulling them apart and reseating them? It could be that simple. There are also (Fuse U) and (PCM Power Diode) that controls the (PCM Power Relay). Fuse U also controls 12V to the ignition module, Ignition coil, and Distributor on the Red with Light Green striped wire.

Okay. I proceeded with the tests outlined for resistance in the PIP and it failed on all accounts. The resistance was 575 ohms between ICM pin 6 and distributor pin 1, 600 ohms between dist. pin 1 and PCM pin 56, and the resistance between mod pin 6 and ground was 7000 ohms. According to Haynes the PIP is bad. It seems odd to me that the PIP and the ICM would go out at the same time but I guess the tests don't lie. I can't get the drive gear off of the distributor to install the new PIP so it's in the freezer. Hopefully this will do it. I did have power in the run position at the red/lt green before I started swapping parts so that should be good. I'll let y'all know what happens but I'm still open to suggestions.

OKAY! Now I can't get the friggin' gear off of the distributor. I was using a three jaw puller and couldn't get it off. It even mushroomed the shaft slightly. I have never seen one stuck like this. Ideas?

Success! I finally got the gear off (chipped a tooth toward the top but serviceable). Got it back together and FIRED IT UP! Ran around the block like a new one, er, like it did friday morning. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions guys. Maybe the next time I'm posting I can give back. I certainly hope so anyway.
