The lights on the 4X4 button on the dash are not working. What is the proper procedure for engaging four wheel drive on a 93 Bronco? If the light does not work how can I tell that I am in four wheel drive mode?

Thanks for all your help!!!

Hi again SpyderBret, why don't you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your truck. Post a picture and put some in your member photo albumn.

As for the 4x4 engagement, there should be a sticker on the back side of the driver side sun visor. If the Drivers manual came with the truck, it is described there also. The lights may not work because of a relay problem. I would get atlest a Chiltons manual to aid you in fixing problems, not that we are not willing to, any time, we are glad to answer your questions if we can > . There are a lot of people here with various levels of skill ahd experience.

Engaging automatic hubs requires you to move ahead about 10 ft once selected to actually engage. To disengage them requires you to back up about 10 ft.

With nothing selected you can get under the truck, engine off, and try turning the drive shaft and you should see both axles turn. If the both don't turn, there is something wrong with the one that doesn't turn, ex. frozen U-joint or hub stuck engaged.

Selecting 4H, hubs disengaged, should prevent you from turning the shaft since it is mechanically hooked to the rear drive shaft and means the shift motor and the transfer drive train works.

Engage the hubs and select 2H, climb under the truck, (engine off), and try to turn the front drive shaft by hand. If your hubs are engaged you won't be able to turn it. Using safety jack stands, raise a wheel off the surface and try turning the shaft the raised axle and wheel should trun. Lower it and raise the other, now that axle and wheel should turn. If that works just fine then atleast the hubs and axles are fine.

I think I have covered it all and if I oopsed here, I'm sure someone will jump in on it :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,

:)>-

Thanks for all the info Seabronc!!! I will have to take a look at that tomorrow.

The Bronco is my stepsons and he really likes it a lot. We are learning together all about Broncos. I will post some pictures and add some more information tomorrow. This seems like a great board and I appreciate your input. Keep up the good work!!!

Welcome to the Zone! >

It could be as simple as a blown bulb in the button, $5 from your local auto parts store.

Good luck

Right, I totally skipped over the light thing. You want to fix that for normal operation and Shadow_D is right, the indicator could be as simple as a burned out bulb. On the other hand the indicator going on and off doesn't mean the transfer case is functioning or that the hubs are actually engaging. So once you have satisfied yourself that the system actually works mechanically as it should, you should trouble shoot the indicator problem. If neither work properly they may be related, like a relay.

Good luck,

:)>-
