Hey everybody, I have a 91 eddie bauer edition 4x4 and it's been giving me problems recently. First, my check engine light goes off and on sometimes at normal speed for no reason and second is that whenever i gas it, it seems to run sluggish or bogs and doesn't have any power at all. I just replaced the oil and added Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer. Third, I have a hard time starting it sometimes during cold start or even after i run it for awhile. i replace the selonoid and check the cables but still doing the same thing. Any idea on what's going on with my ride? Any help I could get is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.. :)>-

I would look at the basic items like the fuel filter, PCV valve, spark plugs and wires. You may just be in need of a tune-up, or may have a bad sensor like the TPS. It's a good idea to have the timing checked, too. If you are having a hard time starting due to a worn timing chain, you can eventually damage the motor.

First I would get the code from the check engine failure. The computer is trying to tell you something. It may be pointing you to a failing sensor. The sluggishness may be because the computer doesn't know what to do. EFI engines depend on all sensors functioning properly.

Also, you might want to check around and make sure there are no vacuum leaks.

Good luck,

:)>-

thanks for the response guys, i really appreciate it. ok for the starting problem. whenever i start it, it just have that whinning noise like it's about to start but the started doesn't turn or crank. i checked the starter cable making sure that everything is clean and tight and it still does the same thing. on the code part, i think i'm gonna have to take it in at a shop to get that, not unless if theres a way to find out without taking it to the shop. what i also noticed is that when i give it some gas, it sorta bogs then kicks hard even though theres plenty of gas. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

My 90 Bronco has the "sluggish" problem, too. I'll mash the gas, it will hesitate, and then **** you hard. I've used Lucas fuel injector cleaner and that didn't fix it. Could it be the air/fuel mixture? It has brand new plugs, wires, and distributor cap. Would Autozone or a parts store like that check the codes for me?
