Okay...My 91 has been off the road for some time and i FINALLY got the fuel pump and gas tank in it....fired it up...runs great. Shut it off...5 minutes later wouldn't crank. After playing with it some i noticed that the ignition wasn't springing back from the start position but it would not carnk. All the ligts were on so i went out and used a remote starter switch on the solenoid with the key resting in the start position and if started fine. Now i can get it started this way....but now i cant get it out of Park....is it the igintion switch itself?...or something further down?

Thanks

I would try the ingnition switch fisrt they are only like $6 or $8 and if that doesn't fix it you can take it back and you haven't lost anything except the 10 mins it takes to switch them back and forth. Let me know what happens.

You have a linkage problem between the key tumbler and the ignition switch mounted on the steering column under the dash. It is operated by a rod running down the top of the column to the switch. There is a link between the tumbler and rod and the return is operated by a spring in the column switch. It could be as simple as an adjustment or a broken link. If the new tumbler seems to operate the ignition switch then either the spring is broken or the switch is out of adjustment. The adjustment proceedure is available in the *** Too section of the forum.

Good luck,
