I have had some great success here ...lets see if we can continue. I have a 1991 Bronco with 5.8L ... after running for awhile if i shut it off i is hard cranking and often refuses to start. But as soon as it cools down it fires right up. Runs good while it is running all the guages read fine..

Thanks

Rich

If you have headers the starter might be getting heat soaked and this causes the internal resistance to go up so even a very healthy battery will have a hard time . This happens alot with headers but could also happen with manifolds . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I dont have headers as of yet but was thinking of putting some shortys on in the near future...I have had the truck for the better part of 8 yrs now and have not put a starter in it ...battery is 3-4 years old...so makes sense. Will see if anyone else adds to this but was kind of leaning in that direction already.

Thanks

Rich

I'm leaning toward a fuel delivery problem. Have you pulled for DTC's (trouble codes) recently? You may want to check the fuel system and pressure, both cold and after driving or when it won't start. There's several threads about starting problems like yours that might help out, too. JSM84

I will look into that (Just replaced the fuel pump not all that long ago) but its not so much a matter of wont fire as it is cranking slow after running and getting hot ...more like a dead battery or an overheated condition in general. Only code that comes up is an EGR code that has been there forever.

you prolly have starter solenoid problem sometimes they stick, usually in the won't start position, you can do one of 2 things, you can replace it they are only around 6 bucks and every parts store has them, or every time u start it u can turn the ignition on, pop the hood and jump the 2 long posts with a screwdriver every time, if you replace it (and they are so cheep why wouldn't you) make sure all the wires go on the new one as the did on the old one and don't over tighten but dont leave them too loose either
