88 Bronco 5.8L with a whining noise under acceleration, whining goes way at idle. Removed the vacccum from the manifold absolute pressure diaphram and the whining stops. Replaced diaphram and yep, noise still there. Not sure what else to look for, any ideas.

I do not know what the problem is but I am having the same problem with my 85. It has a rebuilt engine in it that I have changed the PS pump and the Alternator. The belts sound like they are sqealing but it is only under acceleration. If you get any good tips let me know too.

It's probably your belt tensioner... or idler pulley. Either one can make that noise.... Just take the pulley off, clean it, and put some grease in the bearing....

Other than that, I wouldn't know. Hope that helps...
