I have a few questions. I own an 87 Bronco 351W. And its about ready for a new transmission and I was wondering if it would be better to install a transmission that has overdrive vs another 3 speed which is im guessing what it is in it now without overdrive?

And also I'm trying to eventually run 36 or 37 inch tires for some slight rockcrawling and I was wondering if there is any way to toughen up the front a rear axles becuase from what I understand the twin beam isnt really too supportive?

thanks

Nick,

Do you know for sure what you have in there now ? With an 87 it might be either a C6 or an AOD & if it's the latter you already have the overdrive. If it's a C6 then yes you'll definately benefit from swapping to an AOD but they aren't cheap (I'm STILL driving back & forth to the packy in reverse because I don't have the $$$ for a new AOD). Take the time now to put in an upgraded AOD with the 1 piece input shaft & 88/later valve body.

You can always install a truss on the rear axle or swap it out for something larger. The front you're kinda stuck with unless you want to swap to a solid axle
