Hey everyone, I'm new to bronco zone. Well my question is for my pops '87 bronco. Well it had 220k miles on the stock motor and trans when I blew two cyl on it. So we test drove another bronco and brought the motor and trans from it. It was running great in that truck, and the guy wouldn't sell us the truck only the motor and trans. So we get the motor bolted up and I put on some BBK Headers on it. We found out that the trans is different. The original trans on our '87 does not have a push button over drive. The one we bought did. So the truck has been sitting for a little over a year since the swap because my dad pretty much gives up because he can't figure out the problem. He does how ever start it up a few times a weeks.

What it does:

Starts up fine, some tapping, doesnt see like the oil is flowing to the top of the motor.

When taking it on the road, the engine feels like its trying to pull something. I don't know but maybe thinking it could be the torque converter or the trans since it is the original one?

I mean it's slow as ****. Its just like the other engine with 2 blown cylinders! Any one help me out? Can it be computer problems?

Feel free to email me also!

I'm currently on deployment (US NAVY) and it would be great to have an idea on what to fix when I get back. Would be a good Christmas present...

when you say you take it on the road and it feels like its pulling something. are you hitting the gas and its moving but barely? if thats the case its a good possibility that you didnt push the torque converter back all the way (its supposed to go back 3 times) and by not doing that it can burn the pumps up. as to the tapping check all the oil holes in the head, check the pick up tube and screen they could be clogged.

Yeah, when I hit the gas all the way down, it just reves up and goes really slow. What pumps are you talking about buring up? You think it could be the torque converter? Do you think it should be replaced also? Thanks for your help.

the pumps inside the transmissions could have burnt up. i doubt if it would be the converter itself but its always a good idea to play it safe and try a new one anyway. from what you're telling me the torque converter not being pushed back all the way is most likely your problem

good possibility you will have to either replace it or have it rebuilt. my advice send it out to a tranny shop have them check it if they say its no good or want to charge you a shit load to rebuild it. just go to a junkyard and get another trans or buy one from someone...if you plan on wheelin it i'd recommend getting a C6 they're very good trannys and strong
