umong 2 of hte major problems of the 87 they are big and yet small problems. One is the crappy standard locking hubs, the other was some that came with the push button selector for your transfer case.

To go to a manual shifter for the transfer you will most likely need to replace your transfer case, since it is a weak link in the 4x4 system this isnt all bad. Another is replacing the locking hubs from the auto type to standard and it may be as simple as a knuckle out swap. The Rear end I believe on the 87s is the 8.8.

What application will you use the bronco for most of the time. If its a daily driver, and you just want to upgrade to mostly looks enhancments then the rear and 4x4 system wont matter much. Swapping to a 9" means losing your speedo cable unless someone here knows how to mod that problem.

If you are going to do any real offroading then go for the solid axle swap for the front and this along with the new transfer case and chopping a hole in your floor board will get you set. I dont remember doesnt the transfer case still have a manual shifter on teh floor, I saw a friends 86 Bronc with the push button 4x4 and thought he still had the lever, but its also 3am and my brain is nto working.

Just think of your applications you intend to use and plan around it, the 8,8 and push button will do just fine for daily driving and for light to med offroading.

The speed sensor in the rear end is only for the antilock brakes on an 87 the speedometer is still cable driven . Wasnt until 92 with the digital odometer did the speed sensor in the rear end drive the speedometer . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
