i just got a 85 2 and the body and frame are in great conditoin but after driving it for 2 months it developed a grinding noise between gears and the a few days later it died on me. when it died it started to jump and then just lost gears but it was still on and would idle i then shut it off and tried to start it agian it would not start so i asked a few people what was wrong that lead to replacing the starter syleniod and the battery i was then told to check the flywheel when it still wouldnt turn over so i did and i can spin it with my hand i have not yet had the weather (no garage) to check the grounds any advice would be great....i wanna lift it and turn it into my toy but if i cant get it running im goin to have to get rid of it hopfully not to the junkyard either

Can you hear the starter when you try to start? If so, you may have a broken gear, or Bendix spring.

Good luck,

:)>-

Wait a minute... You said you can spin the flywheel with your hand?? If it is free spinning your flywheel may have broken. If I am misunderstanding you try check the starter solenoid if battery tested fine. Make sure you have power to each wire and trace them to check for power following the fusible links.

is it a 5 speed or auto cause 5 speed though never tried it before i can see where if in N the flywheel may be free spinnin but if auto then def should not be free spinnin dont think its the starter or anything to do with that cause the truck just died comin down the road correct? i have had a battery **** my truck before also would not start back do to the power wire runnin to an amp in the back of my truck it sorted out where it was on the firewall, so if not done so check bat any wires that stick out as bad or look like maybe a bare spot on them that might short out on metal somewhere hope it turns out to be nothin.
